Erasmus+ Hoogeveen November 2018

Monday, November 5, we had to go to school during the day, the Italian boy who stayed at my home arrived at 20:30. On arrival he was still hungry, so we went to the McDonalds. Here he took a Maestro Angus burger with old cheese, this was the first interaction with a really typical Dutch thing: Old cheese! My mother, my sister and I ate a McFlurry here. When we went home around 9:30 PM we put his suitcases in the spare room and he went to sleep right away because he was very tired of the trip.

On Tuesday morning he got out of bed with difficulty, my mother had to walk into the room several times before he got out of bed. In the morning we ate some bread with Nutella. He did not want lunch at school. We had to be at school at 8:50, then we did an introductory quiz in the groups. We went to the Coöp in the morning to buy lunch, we bought frikandelbroodjes and water. In the afternoon we went to the city center to do a treasure hunt and to visit the mill. At the mill we got a tour and we went to the top floor. Our group was the fastest group to complete the quest. At 16:00 we took a picture at the town hall which was later to be found in the newspaper. That afternoon and the beginning of the evening we went to my house. We were bowling from 21:00 to 23:00 at Kiri Hoogeveen. We were here with Estrella, Hadees, Emma, me and our guests. This was very nice and fun.

On Wednesday morning, we had breakfast my mom went to the Lidl to get croissants and fresh bread rolls. At school we were working on an assignment where we had to look for information on certain topics. Jelle and I have done the most here in our group because the Italians in our group did not want to work. In the afternoon we went to camp Westerbork, I found this quite impressive. In the evening we ate boerenkool, unfortunately my guest did not want to try this because he said in advance that he did not like it.

Thursday morning we started our project for a tourist attraction in Drenthe, here w Jelle and I again did the most work in our group but after a speech from Mr. Oosting our Italians also started to show interest. Thursday afternoon we went to Wildlands, this was very nice. We first went to the safari where we drove with a truck between the animals. Then we went to the Asian part where many birds could be found. Here we also sailed with a boat through a small river. Then we went to a 4D movie at the Antarctic part. There also were Penguins there, there were also polar bears around here. We went home at 4:30 PM. Then we had dinner with our family at Happy Grill this was very nice and delicious, to my surprise i found out how much my guest could eat. He did not eat much at home but at Happy Grill he ate 7 steaks and 4 plates of fish.

Friday morning we arrived at school and then we prepared our presentation, after which we held our presentation. After preparing for an hour and a half, it was still a good thing with the Italians who had not done much before. After a good presentation we went to Assen to swim in the Bonte Wever. Here we were mainly with our own Dutch group. In the evening we went to my grandfather and grandmother to do our weekly tradition: Vrijdag patatdag. Here I was once again surprised how much my guest could eat. After this we went to bed early, my guest wanted to go to bed early because he would be well rested for our excursion to Amsterdam, I went gaming with my friends to 3 a.m.

On Saturday morning Amsterdam, we went to NEMO first. This is a science museum near the center. Here we have been all morning, Here we have looked at the whole museum. Then we sailed through the center of Amsterdam with a boat trip, we got a set of earplugs where we could listen to an audio file with a kind of guide. After this we walked from NEMO to the center where we got an hour and a half free time. We walked several times through the red light district and we ate something, this was very nice. In the evening we went to the party at school where everyone brought something to eat, I thought there was not a lot of good food. The desserts were tasty. After this we danced until 10 am with all of them on different kinds of music and after that we had a closure where certificates were shared.

Sunday morning we got out of bed at 10:30 am to start packing afterwards we took him to the station and we said goodbye.
